Meet Dr. Michael Spitzer CSI Council Member

Dr. Spitzer is a licensed Doctor of Optometry and has been in Private Practice in Irvine since 1980. His specialties include Contact Lenses, Orthokeratology, Nutrition Counseling, Disease detection and Treatment, Sports Vision, and Biofeedback. He comanages Lasik, Cataract surgery and Macular Degeneration procedures. He has been a Clinical Investigator for Allergan and Alcon Pharmaceuticals, and Alcon Surgical as well as an expert witness for many attorneys.  He received the Consumer Business Review “Eye Care Professional of the Year” Award in1996 and 2001 and a National Leader Award as Honorary Co-Chairman of the Physician’s Advisory Board in 2002.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, and past President and current Vice President of the Orange County Optometric Society.

He is very involved in his community as a past Vice President of the Irvine Chamber of Commerce and on their Board of Directors for 6 years. He started the Ambassadors Committee, co-chaired the South Coast Chili Cookoff and received the Chamber’s Member of the Year Award in 1986.

Dr. Spitzer was a Charter Member of the Irvine Medical Center Institutional Review Board and served for 20 years. Last month, he received the first Irvine Hall of Recognition award from the City of Irvine for over 30 years of service to the community.

He has been the President of the Exchange Club of Irvine 3 times and was the President of all the California-Hawaii-Nevada District Exchange Clubs in 2005.  He has won the Distinguished Club President Award, Exchangite of the year award and Lifetime Achievement Award. He has started 5 different Orange County Exchange Clubs including Lake Forest, 2 in Irvine, Tustin and Westminster. 

He has been involved in many other charitable organizations including Crime Survivors, Inc. as a Board member and on the Advisory Board. He is involved with the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation, American Cancer Society, Head Start Program, and the Irvine Police Department.
