Dr. Steven Choi Councilmember City of Irvine CSI Advisory Member

Dr. Steven Choi is on the Crime Survivors Advisory Council.  He strongly supports our vision and mission and looks forward to the opportunity to help bring our resources to the Korean and other ethnic communities in Orange County.

Since 2004, Dr. Choi has been a Councilmember for the City of Irvine, having previously served 6 years as a Trustee of the Irvine Unified School District.  Dr. Choi earned his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh, his Master’s degree in Library Science from Louisiana State University, and his BA degree from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea.  Dr. Choi came to the United States from Korea as a Peace Corps language instructor for the State Department in August, 1968.  Since then, he has taught at several universities and colleges including USC, UCI, and California State University, Los Angeles. He founded and serves as Director of Dr. Choi’s Academy. He and his wife, Janie, have also operated Kumon Math and Reading Centers in Irvine since 1990.

In addition to his various City Council appointments, Dr. Choi serves as a member of the Concordia University President’s Advisory Council and regularly attends Mariners Church and Bethel Church in Irvine.  He and his wife have two grown children.  Daniel is a resident physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and Michelle attends the University of Michigan Law School.”
